Android Cupcake to KitKat
Google’s announcement of KitKat as the name of the newest Android mobile operating system is the latest in a line of confectionery-related names, each corresponding with a letter of the alphabet. The first two operating systems, 1.0 and 1.1 went without code names. The third system, 1.5, started the trend in April 2009 as Cupcake, paving the way for Donut (1.6), Eclair (2.0 and 2.1), Froyo (2.2), Gingerbread (2.3 and 2.4), Honeycomb (3.0, 3.1, 3.2), Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0), Jelly Bean (4.1) and KitKat (4.4). Each logo released by Google incorporates elements of the Android robot logo designed by Irina Blok.
